Dixie Holiday

Words & Music: Bobby Shiflett

Under a willow,
           by the summer pond
Out in the meadow,
           you turned me on
The night was heaven
          Stars filled the sky
But still the moment somehow passed us by

When the sun is shining over southern pine
The dew gives succor to the budding vine
And the light does shine, yes the light does shine
And the day is mine …for one more day

Look away, I say
Burn down the old highway
A Dixie holiday.

The is the story
            of our alienation.
The pride and hunger
            of a rebel nation
The southern ghost
             cannot raise his head
And drink a toast to the life that he has fled

When the sun is shining on forgotten fields
Our silent heroes are forever stilled
And the light does shine, yes the light does shine
And the day is mine …for one more day

Look away, I say
Burn down the old highway
A Dixie holiday.
