Playing With Matches

When I was five they told me not to play with matches
Now they’re following and listening to all of my messages
They say I’m crazy because I like to hide away and lock the door
But I’m the only one who really knows exactly what we’re fighting for

When I was twelve they caught me making rockets …in the closet, alone
They kicked me out of chemistry for making nervous gases
All because at five they told me not to play with matches

This is my rifle and this is my gun
This one is for shooting, this one is for having fun
You should have been watching me, you should have been watching me
You didn’t believe me, now who is coming up behind you?

I’m kind of nerdy and wear thick glasses
You see me lurking in the backs of your classes
But one day I’ll rise up and rule the masses
All because at five they told me not to play with matches
